Throughout my middle school and high school years, volunteering has given me a chance to give back to my community while tying in my interests and strengths to help those in need. My prior volunteer experience includes serving as a cadet as part of the Hazlet Emergency Medical Services, acting as a teaching assistant and student leader for a summer enrichment program, teaching in a coding outreach program for girls, tutoring at my local library as well as through a different organization, and being a dance instructor.
Some other extracurriculars that I take part in are robotics, music, and tennis. I am one of the four coders on VEX Robotics team 90819A, currently tied for the number one team in the world. Being part of the robotics team exposed me to the coding language C++ to code the robot's movements, both with driver control and autonomously. I have also been learning Indian classical music for the past eight years and have recently started learning light music. In middle school, I was part of the selective girl choir. I enjoy listening to music, and that led to my interest and inspiration to sing songs myself. I played tennis when I was younger and started playing tennis again over the past two years.
I have been involved in various clubs, including the Science Club, Academic Team, and Robotics and Coding Club. These clubs have given me the opportunity to explore and develop an interest in different subjects and topics that I can pursue in the future. For example, the Science Club has allowed me to learn more about the various fields of science. As part of the Science Club, I participate in science competitions like the Science Olympiad and the National Science Bowl. As teams, we work to answer challenging questions with speed and accuracy. In the academic team, we compete in multiple tournaments where we answer questions from a variety of subjects, including art, literature, science, math, pop culture, and others. Being a part of this team helps me gain knowledge about topics that I may not have delved into otherwise. Finally, in the Robotics and Coding Club, we learn how to code with different languages. We build websites, games, and apps by using coding languages like Python. Over the past couple of months, my involvement with the Robotics and Coding Club has allowed me to work with teammates to build a holiday-themed game, teaching me the fundamentals of software development. I have participated in the monthly challenges where I paired up with my friends and made a holiday-themed version of Pacman. The feedback given to our project from the seniors helped me learn how to improve my future coding endeavors.
